About the project
A directory built around the people who live and work here.
Who it aims to serve
Residents looking for nearby businesses and services; local business owners — from restaurants and barbershops to home-based childcare and makers; aspiring entrepreneurs exploring where to start or grow; and community partners helping shape what comes next.
Why independent businesses matter
Much of the neighborhood's economic life happens in small, owner-run businesses that don't always show up in big online directories. Making them easier to find keeps more support close to home.
How it complements social-resource work
A separate prototype focuses on social support services and community resources. Southeast Connect focuses on the commercial side — businesses, entrepreneurs, and properties — so the two can work side by side.
How you can help shape it
Try the directory, add a fictional test listing, suggest corrections, and tell us what's missing. Feedback from residents and owners directly decides what we build next.
What remains under development
Real business and property data, a reviewed submission process, a map view with verified coordinates, and decisions about long-term ownership, free access, and funding. Community ownership and free access are goals being explored — not settled arrangements.
This prototype is not an official product of any university, city, nonprofit, or community partner, and does not imply their endorsement.
